Media Business Insight (MBI) owns a unique, digitally-led portfolio of multichannel, subscription-based brands, offering content and insight to key decision-makers and creatives in the media industries.

We negotiated the purchase of MBI from a corporate owner that was rationalising its portfolio through a number of non-core disposals. We delivered a solution against tight timescales laid down by the vendor, providing a combined debt and equity package of £11.7mn for a majority stake.

Investment rationale

The aim is to maintain and enhance the company’s position as a content-driven thought leader in its markets and to become the ultimate “go to” publisher for information and data. MBI has recently acquired a number of titles to strengthen its market position, and now plans to continue increasing its breadth and depth of offering to drive recurring revenues from subscriptions.

We sold our stake in MBI in June 2022, realising a cash-on-cash return of 2.3x for the VCTs.
