Nu Quantum is building the quantum networking technology needed to scale quantum computers.

Nu Quantum is the category creator and leader in distributed quantum computing technology. Its Entanglement Fabric is a modular, interoperable networking layer that interconnects quantum processors into a more powerful distributed quantum computer. Through its technological advances and collaboration with industry partners, Nu Quantum is accelerating the path to fault tolerance to unlock breakthroughs and transform industries worldwide. The business was founded in 2018 as a spin-out of the University of Cambridge looking to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory.

In 2025, Gresham House Ventures participated in Nu Quantum’s oversubscribed $60 million Series A funding round – the largest Series A round ever raised by a pure-play quantum networking company.

Investment rationale

Quantum computers have the potential to solve problems currently beyond the reach of supercomputers, from optimising systems with millions of moving parameters to modelling molecules on an atomic level to discover breakthrough materials. Until now, the quantum computing industry has focused on improving individual quantum processors. But achieving real utility and fault tolerance will require scaling to systems with 1,000x more qubits than exist today. Nu Quantum is addressing this bottleneck by weaving individual processors into a modular, distributed computing fabric. Nu Quantum supports our investment thesis of backing enabling technologies that can address the challenges in achieving quantum advantage.

Nu Quantum is led by the impressive Founder and CEO, Dr. Carmen Palacios-Berraquero, who leads an interdisciplinary team of 60+ across nine technical disciplines with research laboratories in Cambridge, UK, and an office in Los Angeles, US.

The new funding will accelerate Nu Quantum’s mission to reach fault tolerance by interconnecting quantum processors into a more powerful distributed quantum computer, unlocking the projected $1 trillion quantum computing market.

The funding will also support Nu Quantum’s international expansion, including the growth of its presence in Europe and the US. Following the opening of its Los Angeles office in 2024, the company has built a strong US-based Strategic Advisory Board, including Dr. Robert Sutor, formerly of IBM, and Roland Acra, former CTO of networking giant Cisco System, and Richard Moulds, former Head of Amazon Braket, the AWS Quantum Computing as a Service platform. Nu Quantum will continue to bring together the ecosystem under the umbrella of the Quantum Datacenter Alliance (QDA), and work with Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) partners to advance network-processor integration.

Joe Krancki

Investment Director

Joe joined Gresham House as part of the Mobeus VCT team in 2021. He originates and leads growth capital investments in technology-led businesses.

Joe has over 20 years’ experience helping to build, transform, and grow companies across North America and Europe. He focuses on software, data & analytics, tech-enabled services, and online marketplaces.

I am passionate about partnering with ambitious tech entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and deepen their impact.

Previous roles include at Frog Capital, where he was a Partner, Jefferies, 3i and EY. He was named one of the Financial News’ 40-Under-40 Rising Stars in Private Equity in 2015.

He holds a BSc and an MSc in Industrial Engineering and an MBA.

Outside of work, Joe spends far less time doing sports than he did before having a family. Whilst he isn’t likely to do another Ironman, he enjoys undoing the swimming and cycling he does by having dinner parties and a not-so-occasional glass of wine.

Investment Director

Maya joined Gresham House in September 2019, and focuses on healthcare investments, including Orri, Metrion Biosciences and Panthera Biopartners.

Prior to Gresham House, she spent 4 years at Octopus Investments, investing in real estate-backed healthcare companies and entrepreneurs. Before this she worked at KPMG for 7 years in audit and corporate finance.

Maya holds a first-class degree in Modern History and is a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW).

Outside of work, Maya enjoys playing hockey (when not suffering from an injury!), travelling and watching martial arts films.

It’s a pleasure to be investing in the future of UK healthcare across a range of sub sectors and working with some of the country’s top scientists and clinicians to deliver world-class solutions.
